Roman blinds

Roman blinds made to measure

  • A roman blind is a fabric blind that rises in horizontal folds and stacks above the window. It takes no space at the sides, so it suits recesses, windows above radiators and windows with furniture beneath them.
  • Sheer, dim-out or blackout fabric; a day and night blind combines two layers on one window.
  • Chain operation, or a motor by Somfy or Brel. From order confirmation to installation takes 3–4 weeks.

How the home visit works →

Made to the recess or to the frame, in the same fabric library as the curtains, so a blind and a pair of curtains can match in one room.

Which fold?

The classic roman blind lies flat when lowered and folds into neat, stacked pleats when raised. A cascade blind keeps soft folds even when lowered. Most rooms use the classic fold.

Inside the recess or over the frame?

Inside the recess, the blind sits flush with the wall and leaves the sill free, which suits kitchens and deep reveals. Over the frame, it covers the edges of the window, keeps more light out and makes a small window look larger.

Chain or motor?

A chain at the side raises and lowers the blind with no wiring. A motor by Somfy or Brel runs from a remote, a wall switch or a phone, and can join a smart-home system.

Warranty: 12 months on sewing and tracks, 24 months on mechanisms and motors.

Roman blinds or curtains?

A roman blind controls light precisely and needs no room at the sides; curtains need space to stack but soften a large window. Many rooms use both: a blind in the recess for the day and curtains for the evening.

How does an order run?

Four steps, with the price and the dates agreed before anything is made.

  1. 1Visit and measuringThe designer brings fabric samples and measures the windows. Measuring is free in Vilnius. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. Elsewhere in Lithuania the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand.
  2. 2Written quoteFabric in metres, pleat or fold, track, fitting and the total price, in writing, before anything is ordered.
  3. 3MakingMade in Lithuania to the designer's measurements. From order confirmation to installation takes 3–4 weeks.
  4. 4Fitting and warrantyThe track or mechanism is fitted and the curtains or blinds are hung. Warranty: 12 months on sewing and tracks, 24 months on mechanisms and motors.

Questions

Do roman blinds work in a kitchen?

Yes. Fitted inside the recess, a roman blind stays clear of the worktop and the sill. An easy-care fabric that can be washed is the usual choice there.

Can a roman blind darken a bedroom?

With a blackout fabric or lining it blocks most of the light, though any blind lets a little in at the edges. For a dark room, fit it over the frame rather than inside the recess, or add curtains.
