What are roller blinds?

A roller blind is a window dressing in which the fabric rolls onto a roller. There are blackout roller blinds (which block the light), day and night blinds (a double fabric for adjusting privacy and light) and light-filtering blinds. They are fitted inside the recess, on the frame or to the ceiling.

Made-to-measure roller blinds are a compact, practical window dressing, especially for modern flats in Naujamiestis, the Old Town or Šnipiškės. The designer measures the windows. Warranty: 12 months on sewing and tracks, 24 months on mechanisms and motors. If you are choosing between roller blinds and classic curtains, roller blinds win on compactness and easier care. They are made to the exact measurements of your windows, which keeps the gaps at the edges small.

What comes with an order?

We work in Vilnius and across Lithuania, with 500+ projects from flats to offices. Measuring is done at an agreed time. A roller blind fixed to the window frame needs no drilling, which suits rented homes.

Which types of roller blind suit which situations?

The main types are classic, day and night, blackout and screen; between them they cover privacy and sun control.

Classic roller blinds are a simple combination of tube and fabric, a good fit for offices and kitchens. They are compact, fitted inside the recess or on the wall, and cost from €12 per m².

Day and night roller blinds have sheer and opaque bands. A pull of the chain shifts the layers, so light and privacy are set with one movement (up to 2.4 m wide).

Blackout roller blinds block the light through the fabric. With side channels the light cannot leak round the edges, and the fabric also insulates and dampens sound.

Screen roller blinds use fabrics that let through 1–5% of the light. They filter the sun, protect screens and still let you see out. They are flat, do not heat up and are easy to look after, so they suit offices and homes.

Which fabrics and materials work best?

The choice of fabric depends on whether darkening, protection from heat or a neutral look matters most.

Screen fabrics (letting 1–5% of the light through) suit offices and sunny rooms, from €15 per m². Blackout fabrics (no light through) are for bedrooms and home cinemas, from €20 per m². Day and night fabrics alternate sheer and opaque bands and suit most rooms, from €18 per m². Decorative fabrics (letting 20–50% through) suit kitchens and living rooms, from €25 per m².

How are roller blinds usually fitted?

Most often inside the recess, on the wall, on the frame without drilling, or with side channels for roof windows.

Inside the recess, the blind is fixed straight into the window recess. It keeps the blind compact and the sill free. On the wall, the blind hangs above the window, which makes the window look larger and suits a recess that is too shallow.

Fitting without drilling fixes the blind straight to the window frame, which suits a rented flat. For roof windows and sloping windows, special roller blinds with side channels are used, so that the fabric does not drift away from the glass at any angle.

What mistakes do people make when choosing roller blinds?

The most common mistakes are inexact measuring, the wrong fabric and a mechanism chosen without regard to the type of window.

A bright fabric on a white frame looks like a patch, because the eye notices the contrast at once, so choose a fabric colour close to the colour of the window frame. Blackout roller blinds without side channels let light in at the edges and do not darken fully, so order them with side channels, or as a cassette system.

Blackout roller blinds alone leave the window bare by day when they are raised, so combine them with sheer curtains. If fitting blocks the window from opening, the blind gets in the way of airing or cleaning the window; use mini brackets, or a cassette system on the frame. Cheap standard sizes often do not match the window (too narrow or too wide), so order to the exact measurements of your windows.

What do made-to-measure roller blinds cost in 2026?

The final price depends on the fabric, the operating mechanism and the size of the window, so the guide prices below help before you get a quote.

Classic roller blinds (up to 3 m wide) cost €12–18 per m², day and night (up to 2.4 m) €18–25 per m², blackout (up to 3 m) €20–30 per m², and electric (up to 5 m) €40–60 per m². The exact price for your windows comes from the price calculator or the consultation.

Roller blinds, roman blinds or venetian blinds: which suits the room?

All three look alike at first. This short comparison shows where to start.

Roller blinds give open-or-closed light control (day and night blinds sit in between), reach full darkness with a blackout fabric and side channels, suit damp rooms (PVC fabric) and cost €25–45 for a 1.2 × 1.5 m window. They suit an office, a kitchen and a bedroom best, but are limited on large windows (at most about 240 cm).

Roman blinds have soft folds and suit a living room, a dining room and a kitchen. They also reach full darkening with a blackout fabric, but are limited on large windows (up to about 200 cm), and cost €50–180. Venetian blinds control the light precisely (the slats turn) and suit terrace doors, offices, kitchens and, as vertical blinds, large windows. Full darkness is hard to reach with them, and they cost €30–140.

What should I know about roller blinds in the districts of Vilnius?

The districts of Vilnius have different challenges, from the narrow recesses of the Old Town to the large windows of Pilaitė. This is what we have noticed in practice.

In the Old Town there are narrow window recesses and non-standard sizes. Choose compact cassette roller blinds fixed to the window frame, because drilling into walls is avoided in historic buildings. In Žvėrynas and Antakalnis many windows face south and west: screen roller blinds with UV protection protect furniture and screens, and blackout blinds suit bedrooms and children's rooms.

In Naujamiestis and Šnipiškės, high-rise flats with panoramic windows often take vertical blinds, or large day and night roller blinds with electric control for windows that are hard to reach. In Pilaitė, Pašilaičiai and Perkūnkiemis, the standard 1.2–1.5 m windows of new flats are most economically served by classic roller blinds or day and night versions.

How are roller blinds measured and fitted?

Exact measuring is done before making, and at fitting the mechanism is adjusted so that the blind runs smoothly from the first day. Measuring is free in Vilnius. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. Elsewhere in Lithuania the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand.

If you would rather fit them yourself, the guide to fitting roller blinds and the guide to measuring a window, linked below, explain it step by step.

Questions

Which roller blinds suit a small window?

Cassette roller blinds on the frame are the usual choice for a small window, because they take up no extra space and do not stop the window from opening.

Do blackout roller blinds block the light completely?

Not on their own. The best result comes from a blackout fabric with a cassette and side channels; without them, a strip of light can still show round the edges.

How long does it take to fit roller blinds?

The fitting itself usually takes 1–2 hours. From order confirmation to installation, curtains, roman blinds and other blinds take 3–4 weeks, and tracks 1–2 weeks.

Do roller blinds suit roof windows and sloping windows?

Yes. Special systems with side guides keep the fabric close to the glass at any angle.

Which colour is best for making a roller blind less noticeable?

A fabric colour close to the window frame or the wall usually works best. The blind then becomes a quieter part of the room and does not compete with other accents.

How do I look after roller blinds?

For most fabrics it is enough to wipe them regularly with a soft cloth or to vacuum them with a soft attachment. Damp cleaning is only for fabrics where the maker allows it.

Do you work across Lithuania?

Yes. Measuring and fitting are available in Vilnius and in other towns, on a route agreed in advance and depending on the size of the project.
