What curtain measuring costs in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda

Measuring is free in Vilnius. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. Elsewhere in Lithuania the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand. The designer comes at an agreed time with fabric samples and a track catalogue. A measuring visit is more than writing down the dimensions of a window: the designer judges how the track can be fixed (ceiling, recess, the material of the wall), chooses the fullness by heading (for example 2× for a wave heading, 1.5× for a flex tape), shows real fabric samples in daylight and gives a preliminary price for the full service: curtains, making, track, fitting. A visit takes 15–60 minutes, depending on the number of windows. There is no obligation to order: you can get an exact price and talk it over.

What does curtain measuring cost? A price list by city

The price of measuring depends on the address. In Vilnius measuring is always free, even if you decide not to place an order. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free when an order of €200 or more is placed. In other towns in Lithuania the visit is paid and is not counted toward the order; the price is agreed beforehand.

A worked example

Say you order curtains, tracks and fitting for three windows in a flat in Kaunas, and the order comes to more than €200. Then you do not pay for the measuring visit. If the order is smaller, or you do not place one, the visit is paid, and its price is agreed beforehand.

What the measuring visit includes

Measuring at home is more than writing down centimetres. The designer arrives with a full kit, does eight separate things during the visit and leaves an exact quote with no hidden costs:

  1. 1The designer arrives at a time agreed beforehand.
  2. 2Measuring: the width, drop, recess depth and ceiling height of each window are recorded.
  3. 3Fabric samples: the designer brings real samples that you can touch and see in daylight and beside your own furniture.
  4. 4Advice on tracks: metal, wooden, ceiling and electric options are presented with prices, and the designer advises which suits your type of ceiling (plasterboard, concrete, stretch ceiling).
  5. 5Choosing the fullness: the amount of fabric is worked out by heading, 1.5× the track length for a flex tape or eyelets, 2× for a wave heading and 2.5× for pinch pleats; roman blinds need no extra width for folds. The fullness directly affects the price.
  6. 6Checking the recess and ceiling: the walls (brick, plasterboard, concrete), the thickness of the recess, whether there is a blind mechanism, and whether extra brackets are needed.
  7. 7Planning the fitting: the schedule for the fitting visit is set, and it is judged whether drilling is needed and whether ladders are needed for higher ceilings.
  8. 8A preliminary full price: a written quote is given on the spot, with curtains + making + track + fitting. Nothing is left to be added later.

How long does a measuring visit at home take?

The length of the visit depends on the number of windows, how complicated they are and whether the customer has already settled on a style. The average visit takes 30–45 minutes, but a complicated project can take up to 2 hours. Here are approximate times by size of project:

  • 1 window (a bedroom, a child's room): 15–20 minutes for measuring + 15 minutes for choosing fabrics.
  • A flat (3–4 windows, one style): 45–60 minutes in all, including the consultation.
  • A flat with different styles in different rooms (4–6 windows): 60–90 minutes; more fabric options are needed.
  • A house (8–12 windows): 90–120 minutes; the fixing points for tracks are usually noted during the visit.
  • An office or commercial premises (10+ windows): 1–2 hours.
  • A café, hotel or restaurant: 2–4 hours.

How measuring is charged, city by city

In short: in Vilnius measuring is always free, and in Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free when an order of €200 or more is placed. In other towns in Lithuania the visit is paid and is not counted toward the order. Here is the detailed matrix:

The conditions for charging for measuring

An order of €200 or moreFreeFreePaid, not counted toward the order
An order under €200FreePaidPaid, not counted toward the order
No order placedFreePaidPaid; the price is agreed beforehand

Please note

The travel charge covers fuel and the designer's time on distant visits. Its size is agreed beforehand, and it is not counted toward the order. That is how measuring stays free in Vilnius without adding to the price of the order.

How to prepare for the designer's visit: 5 tips

A well-prepared visit takes less time and gives a more exact quote. Before the visit:

  1. 1Clear the sills and the area by the windows. The designer needs access to every window with a tape and a ladder. Take pots, figurines and decorations off the sills.
  2. 2Have a furniture plan ready. If the flat is still empty, explain where the sofa, bed and table will stand. It matters for deciding the length of the curtains (to the floor, to the sill, pooled).
  3. 3Take photographs of the rooms in daylight. Even though the designer will see everything on site, good photographs help in choosing the colour and style of the fabric to go with the interior (the colour of the walls, the shade of the furniture).
  4. 4Settle your budget range. Have a minimum and maximum in mind (for example €800–1,500 for the whole flat). It lets the designer suggest suitable fabrics at once and not waste time on fabrics in a higher price band if you want to keep the cost down.
  5. 5Invite everyone who takes part in the decision. If two spouses, or a designer, are choosing the curtains, it is better for everyone to be there. Repeat visits extend the project.

A measuring service or measuring it yourself?

Many customers ask whether to have the designer come, or to measure themselves and order to their own figures. The answer depends on how complicated the window is and on your experience:

The commonest mistakes when you measure yourself are fabric that is too short, the wrong fullness and the wrong track length; putting them right costs €80–150.

How the measuring visit works

The designer comes with a full kit and with real fabric samples rather than catalogue photographs, and leaves a written quote with the full price.

MB Gojer (Curtain.lt) has worked since 2019 and has completed 500+ projects. That experience lets the designer spot the standard mistakes at the first visit (for example, that a ceiling track will not suit a plasterboard ceiling without extra reinforcement) and suggest an alternative at once.

Prices after measuring: what to expect

Measuring is the first step, and after it you receive a specific price for the order. Below are real examples of prices by size of project, so that you can prepare your budget in advance:

Prices of typical projects (with measuring, fabric, track and fitting)
ProjectCategory of fabricFull price
1 window (a bedroom, sheer + lined)Medium€180–320
1 window with a recess (living room)Linen€350–550
A flat, 3 windows (all the same)Medium€650–950
A flat, 4 windows + the living room separatelyMixed€900–1,400
A whole living room (a window 5–6 m wide)Velvet + blackout€1,100–1,800
A house, 8–10 windowsMedium + a better fabric for the living room€2,200–3,500
A living room + bedroom (the full set)With an electric track€2,500–4,200

You can use the price calculator for a first figure, and the guide to the cost of curtains with fitting for the full price list. Remember that the final price is always confirmed after measuring, because it depends on the real parameters of the window and the fabric chosen.

Five mistakes when measuring yourself

  1. 1Measuring the width of the window instead of the length of the track. The track and the curtain should reach 20–30 cm past the window on each side, so that no gaps show when it is closed. Customers often order to the width of the window and get curtains that are too narrow.
  2. 2Ignoring the fullness. Ordering "2 m of fabric for a 2 m window" gives a flat curtain with no folds. The real need depends on the heading: 2 m × 2 = 4 m of fabric for a wave heading, or 2 m × 1.5 = 3 m for a flex tape (plus about 0.3 m for the edges).
  3. 3Measuring the drop from the track instead of from the ceiling. If the curtain is planned from ceiling to floor (a common choice for a clean look), the drop is measured from the ceiling, not from the track. The mistake leaves the curtain hanging 10–15 cm above the floor.
  4. 4A track that is too short. The track should be 40–60 cm longer than the window (20–30 cm on each side), so that open curtains do not block the light. Customers often order exactly to the window.
  5. 5Not judging the type of ceiling. Plasterboard ceilings cannot hold a heavy ceiling track (over 5 kg) without extra reinforcement. If you order only the track without checking the reinforcement, fitting may later be impossible.

Would you like an experienced person to do the measuring?

Book a measuring visit. Measuring is free in Vilnius. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. Elsewhere in Lithuania the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand. The designer comes at the agreed time with fabric samples and gives an exact price on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

Are there hidden costs in a measuring visit?

In Vilnius measuring is free with no conditions, even if you decide not to place an order. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more, and in other towns in Lithuania it is paid. There are no hidden charges for bringing fabric samples, for the consultation or for preparing the quote: all of it is part of the measuring visit.

How long does measuring one window take?

The measuring itself takes 15–20 minutes, and a visit with the choice of fabric and advice on the track about 30–40 minutes. If the customer has already settled on a style, it can be done in 20 minutes. If more advice is needed, up to 60 minutes.

Do I have to place an order for the designer to come?

In Vilnius, no, and there is no obligation. You can get a quote and talk it over with your family or a designer before deciding. Measuring is free in Vilnius. In Kaunas and Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. Elsewhere in Lithuania the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand.

Can I measure myself and simply order?

Yes, but we recommend having the dimensions checked with the designer. The commonest mistakes are fabric that is too narrow, the wrong fullness and the wrong track length; putting them right costs €80–150.

What does measuring cost in Klaipėda?

Unlike in Vilnius, where measuring is always free, in Klaipėda it is free on orders of €200 or more. If the order is smaller or you do not place one, the visit is paid, and the price is agreed beforehand. On orders of €200 or more you get the full package (measuring, consultation, fabric samples) at no extra cost.

Will fabric samples be brought to the visit?

Yes, the designer brings fabric samples. You can touch them, see them in daylight and hold them against your furniture and walls. A catalogue or an online order cannot show that: the colour of a fabric on a screen can differ from the real thing.

Do you give a final price at the measuring visit?

Yes, a written quote is given at the visit, covering every item: curtains, making, track, fitting and extras (brackets, reinforcement). The price is confirmed after measuring because it depends on the real parameters of the window and the fabric chosen.

Can the visit be in the evening, after work?

In Vilnius the time of the visit is agreed with you, so say at the booking which time suits you. In Kaunas and Klaipėda visits run on set days. In other towns the conditions are agreed beforehand.

Who measures, a salesperson or the designer?

The designer comes, not a salesperson. The designer measures, and also advises on fabrics, tracks and fitting.

Can you come on a Monday morning?

In Vilnius the time of the visit is agreed with you, so ask for the day and time that suit you when you book. The earlier you book, the more choice of time you have.
