Vertical blind prices in 2026: 89 mm or 127 mm, fabric or PVC

Vertical blinds are one of the cheapest ways to cover a window: the fabric version costs from about €39 per m². They suit large windows, patio doors and offices best. The louvres come in two standard widths, 89 mm and 127 mm, and the choice between them depends on four factors: the height and width of the window, the type of room and your own taste. There is no fixed public price list: the exact price is worked out after measuring.
Where vertical blinds beat other window dressings
- Large windows (from 200 cm wide): venetian blinds do not hold their proportions at that width, while vertical louvres scale with the height of the window.
- Sliding doors and balcony door units: vertical blinds draw to the side and do not get in the way of passage, unlike roller blinds or roman blinds.
- Offices and other commercial spaces: a hard-wearing fabric or PVC, easy to clean, keeps a tidy look for a long time.
- Spaces where the angle of the light needs fine adjustment: the louvres can be turned through 180°, which helps control reflections on screens.
89 mm or 127 mm louvres: a decision on four factors
Louvre width changes how the blind works as well as how it looks, and four factors decide it:
| Factor | 89 mm | 127 mm |
|---|---|---|
| Height of the window | Up to about 250 cm: a well-proportioned look | From about 250 cm: in tall spaces a narrower louvre looks too fine |
| Width of the window | Up to about 200 cm: more louvres, but a slender look | From about 200 cm: fewer louvres, fewer moving parts, less risk of faults |
| Type of room | Home: a more modern, lighter look | Office: the standard professional choice |
| Your taste | "I want the cleanest, most modern look" | "I want an office look" or a bold, substantial effect |
When in doubt, ask
When no one factor gives a clear answer, we usually suggest 89 mm in a home and 127 mm in an office. But the final choice is always agreed with the customer: some homeowners like an "office look", and some offices choose the cleaner, more modern 89 mm look.
Prices: what vertical blinds cost
Prices depend on the material and the area of the window:
| Material | Price from | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric (standard fabric) | from €39/m² | The most colours; suits both homes and offices |
| PVC | from €35/m² | More resistant to damp; suits kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces |
| Special fabrics (blackout, textured) | from €55/m² | Block light better; suit bedrooms with large windows |
Why there is no fixed public price list
The final sum depends on the actual dimensions of the window, the fabric collection and how complicated the fitting is. The guide prices help you plan a budget, but you will learn the exact sum only after measuring and a consultation.
Stack-back: how much room the drawn louvres need
Stack-back is the width the louvres take up when they are fully drawn to one side. Check it before you order, especially if there is furniture or a wall next to the window.
- An approximate formula: stack-back ≈ the number of louvres × 3–4 mm. For example, a window 300 cm wide with 89 mm louvres (about 34 louvres) = 10–14 cm of stack-back.
- Drawing to one side: all the stack-back collects on one side, so you need 15–20 cm of free wall.
- Drawing from the centre: the stack-back divides into 7–10 cm on each side, which suits symmetrical windows better.
- Important: if there is furniture or a wall next to the window and no room for the stack-back, that has to be discussed before you order.
Home or office: how the choice differs
| Point | Home | Office |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended width | 89 mm: a more modern look | 127 mm: the standard, fewer moving parts |
| Fabric | Fabric: natural colours, warm textures | Technical fabrics: hard-wearing, easy to clean |
| How often they are opened | Several times a day | Heavy use: reliability matters more |
| Fitting | One window or a few | Often large areas: price and speed matter more |
Care: how to clean fabric louvres
- Fabric louvres: dust them regularly; they can be taken down and washed by hand in water at 30 °C. Avoid the washing machine: it can distort them.
- PVC louvres: wipe clean easily with a damp cloth and a neutral cleaner.
- The headrail mechanism: once a year, check that the louvres move freely; if they catch, use a silicone spray.
- Replacement: single louvres can be replaced without changing the whole headrail, which matters in commercial spaces.
Fabric or PVC: how to choose
| Point | Fabric (from €39/m²) | PVC (from €35/m²) |
|---|---|---|
| Room | Living room, bedroom, office | Kitchen, bathroom, damp rooms |
| Cleaning | Take down, wash at 30 °C | A damp cloth, without taking the louvres down |
| Look | Warm, textured, more colours | Neutral, smooth, glossy or matt |
| Damp | Can absorb damp, so not for a kitchen | Resists damp and grease fumes |
| Filtering the light | From light filtering to blackout options | Standard filtering, fewer options |
| An office | Better: it reflects less of the light from monitors | Suitable, but fabric looks more professional |
When vertical blinds do not suit
- Small windows (up to 80 cm wide): the louvres make the window look overloaded; venetian blinds or roller blinds suit better.
- When you need full darkness: the gaps between the louvres always let light through; a roman blind with a blackout fabric is better.
- Shallow recesses (under 8 cm deep): the headrail system needs room; check before you order.
- Rooms with a strong cross-draught (open balconies): the louvres rattle and clatter; roller blinds or roman blinds are steadier.
